Addison Rae in her Met Gala look, by Tom Ford for Gucci – WWD
“I feel it all,” Addison Rae said hours before making her Met Ball debut. “I’m really excited. It’s very indescribable, but it’s full of butterflies.
Rae, the TikTok megastar who has branched out into music and theater lately, worked with her go-to stylist Law Roach for her first Met Ball and together they chose Look 43 from the 2003 collection of Tom Ford for Gucci, a long crimson dress with corset corset.
“Law and I really went back and forth,” Rae shares. “I found a lot of references – I’m really a fan of references and I look back and then we found this dress together. When we tried it it was perfect.
They knew they wanted to choose an American designer and took inspiration from the early 2000s (still the trend these days).
“We loved the ‘Pretty Woman’ vibe, reminiscent of the glamor of American movie stars of the early 2000s,” said Rae.
Part of her look was to debut cut blonde hair, which her hairstylist, Adir Abergel, spent all night doing, cutting first and then bleaching. “It’s a whole new look for me. It’s something I’ve never done or tried before, when it comes to color and length, ”says Rae. “It takes me more in a fashion direction and I’m trying something new.”
Going into the night, Rae wanted to see fashion, citing Rihanna and Lady Gaga as old favorites. “People who really own it and put on a show and are there for a good reason,” she said. As for his hopes for his first Met?
“See what everyone is wearing, meet people I’ve never met and make a lot of great memories, because tonight is only going to be once.”
